When a person is off injured, and has had a
Workcover claim accepted, it is in the best interest of both the
employer and the injured party that the injured party come back to work,
even on light duties, even part time, to start, as soon as possible;
this increases the probability of continued engagement and a return to
full employment.
Where the employee is off for an extended period, there
are questions about their claim (if they were recently cautioned about
behaviour, or advised that their position may be at risk, and they
suddenly 'injure' themselves, especially), or you receive word of
actions inconsistent with the claimed restrictions, or simply the
employer faces a large civil exposure, and requires confirmation of the
insurance claim. Sometimes it is a new employee, on the their probation,
not performing, who develops or aggravates an injury, then becomes
